Surgery and Recovery

Tai had his surgery 1 week ago and everything went very very well!  Our day started by Cass picking us up at 3:30 am.  We arrived at the hospital early and they got us in and we were the first one's of the day.  They started off by having to give him 3 rounds of eye drops and then we got taken back to the surgery area to meet the anesthesiologist.  Everyone was super nice and made me feel everything was going to be alright.

Once he was back it was just waiting time.  Around half way through, the doctor came out and updating us that most contacts go up to a power of around 35...and Tai was needing around a 50! So he said he was just thinking out loud and was maybe just going to put a lens in and then it would need to be switched out but for sure they were getting the cataract out so he could see, although not perfect focus of course.  He said it wouldn't be that much longer.

It seemed like it was taking a little long and then finally he came back out, luckily with a smile on his face.  He said everything went very well.  He decided since he looked at the back of the eye and it was in good condition, they didn't put a lens in yet and would just let the brain take over to get the eye seeing. He would need a lens down the road.  He also said given what his eye was, about 15 years ago doctors would have just taken the eye out! They wouldn't have been able to fix it so they have come a long way.

He has had 2 check ups since and his eye is healing perfectly.  We are going to have to put a lens in in around 3-4 weeks, not sure the power size but we might have to extend our stay up in Canada just to get it done.  (good doctor + free insurance = peace of mind)

And he is still a smiley boy.
